My Creative Goals for 2023
A Letter of Intent
A year ago I thought I was going to be a lawyer, and now I am making a website about the silliest hopes and dreams one could possibly have. Much of this website is, believe it or not, a love letter to you, my reader, my viewer, my friend. A love letter to the things I love, the books that shape me, all that makes me laugh and cry, but this section is a little different. This is less of a declaration of love to the Void, rather this is a promise of intent of fulfillment. Basically, it's both a public record of what I have done and what I seek to accomplish. I like to scheme and plan all night and day, but at some point, you just have to do. Whether it's terrible, whether it's not the version in your head. Having done something at all seems to me like at least half the battle. Below is my creative bucket list for 2023. Mind you, I started this within the last month, so the lack of checked boxes is to be expected. I have felt pretty aimless the last year or so, and I have spent much of that time feeling like an absolute loser. I want to be successful doing what I love, but I realized I was coming at it all wrong. I was obsessing over all the work I wasn't doing rather than just doing the damn work. There is a time limit on how long you can feel like a loser before you get lost in it, it's a mindset that builds upon itself and takes over your entire life if you let it. I may be a loser, I don't know. I do know that there is certainly not enough time in the day to get everything done and feel like a loser. Something has to give.
Things To Do Instead of Feeling Like a Loser
1. Shoot and Publish that Short Film
I have a million and one excuses why I can't do this. I don't have the equipment or the time or the money to create anything up to my standards. I have a feeling that will always be true. It is a terrible reason to not do something.
2. Build a website. Sell some art
This one is going rather well, I am pleased to inform
3. Create something, anything with claymation
I am pretty sure claymation is all I truly love on this earth and I think making bad claymation will fuel my soul.
4. Take 50 Photos to be proud of
In my free time i do a lot of research on Wes Anderson color theory and I am hoping to learn more about coloring photos and film and putting my knowledge to action
5. Create a Solid Lino Stamp Collection
I picked up linocutting this year and I want to create an intentional and specific set of stamps that I will ideally use together to create prints.
6. Finish and post fiction work
I always put writing and fiction low on my to do list because it is both deeply unprofitable at this point in time and very time consuming, but writing fiction is something I am really passionate about, and if I am being honest, I think it is what I am best at. I want to make a concerted effort to create and share my writing, even if nobody reads it.
More Coming Soon :)
These are just a couple of my goals this year, but as I think up new ones, they'll get their rightfull place on this list as well. Stay tuned!
